Cove’d in naught but animal skin and tribal bloodpaint, Julian (whispered in the villages, as Xhobi !Gaeb, “crazy animal-man-man”) fearlessly stowed away in the ship that would take him ’cross rough seas, in search of the fabl’d dragonfish “Whiffenpoof.” The ship kissed land, Xhobi !Gaeb fled, and prowling the dense canopy night and day he screeched: “!flhasbvoi Whiffenpoof” “!aboapei Whiffenpoof.” The locals, hearing howls in the moonlight, ensnared him, taught him their tongue, and paraded him in black-and-white so that all the world could know his frightful song.
